Darren Lum

Darren Lum can be seen all over the Haliburton Highlands and is easily identified by his easy going demeanor, relaxed nature and a pair of cameras slung around his neck. It’s hard to separate the three, especially the camera, from this virtual fixture at the county newspapers: The Minden Times and The Haliburton County Echo.

He has worked for close to eight years (separated by a five year absence) on telling the stories that make up the Highlands through his writing and photography, which both reveal and raise much discussion.

A consummate professional, he revels in the interactions with various members of the community. Whether it is a high ranking official or the everyman, Darren has always been a leader in his ability to convey the true sense of community in the many stories and emotive images that have filled the two Haliburton County newspapers.

Despite his dedication to work, he can often be seen putting down the camera and lending a hand. During his time in the area, he spent a month in South Korea, representing the county as a member of the 7010 District Rotary Group Study Exchange team. Outside of his work with the newspaper, he has led several instructional sessions on photography, sharing his love and passion for the art. Currently, he is part of an exhibition of art photography hosted at the Agnes Jamieson Gallery. It not only raises debate and provokes thought, but showcases local models and locations.

Haliburton Outdoor Equipment

Haliburton Outdoor Equipment started out 16 years ago, in the Kennisis/Redstone Lakes area, as an authorized licensed Yamaha dealership, with basic equipment lines, such as snowmobiles, ATV’s and marine engines, to introduce Yamaha products to a virtually non-existent representation.

Throughout its many years of dedication to customer service, and on-going factory training, Haliburton Outdoor has grown and developed to reach master dealership status!

Their hard work and commitment to education, employment training and certification has given them the prestigious dealer rating of “dealer excellence rating” – a very difficult stage to be up-graded to.

Haliburton Outdoor Equipment’s reliable performance, constant technical training for employees, apprenticeship programs, and excellent customer satisfaction index (CSI), have all been recognized by Yamaha. A 5-Star Exclusive Award, has been granted to Haliburton Outdoor Equipment for the last 3 consecutive years. This prestigious award by Yamaha Motor Canada, is the highest recognition for accomplishments obtained by very select dealers, for unparalleled sales and service commitment directed towards the motorsport marine industry in Canada.

Two years ago a brand new dealership was designed and built in the County, to Yamaha’s exclusive 5-Star specifications. This venture provided full-time employment to 4 local licensed and Yamaha certified technicians. It also provided the community with an enhanced environmentally clean Yamaha product line, and financing services. Haliburton Outdoor Equipment is an excellent contribution and support, to a much needed local and tourist economy, now and for the future.
