After being elected to Parliament Devolin created a non-partisan Farm Council in his riding to advise and inform him on agricultural issues. He also launched “The Capital Experience“, a program that takes one or two students from each of the area’s seven high schools to Ottawa for three days to learn about career opportunities in public life.

Following his reelection in the 2008 election, he was named assistant deputy chairman of the Committees of the Whole, which makes him one of three presiding officers who may take over for the Speaker in the event of his absence.

The Township provides and manages some 38 + km’s of back country hiking and walking trails throughout the highlands through mystical forests, meandering along scenic rivers, rising up to amazing lookouts and destinations to one of a kind heritage sites. The ongoing development and enhancement of these trails is the result of countless community and volunteer contributions and the efforts of several partner organizations.

The HHWT consists of approximately 28,000 + hectares of provincial and municipal public lands comprised of countless lakes, rivers, trails and continuous forest. Specifically, the HHWT manages two areas known as the Frost Centre and the Poker Lakes.

These areas serve as year round destinations for thousands of canoeists, campers, day trippers, fisherman and hunters and cottagers providing significant back country recreational and conservation values.

The Haliburton Highlands Water Trails is dedicated to the protection and improvement of the canoe route and camping environment throughout the Haliburton Highlands.
