Janet Sheehey has just opened a new store in Haliburton Village that specializes in knitted fur.

What’s knitted fur? Well it’s an application of twisting fur into usable strands suitable for knitting. Over 25 years of research and refinements have resulted in an unparalleled, washable fur yarn.

The new store located on Main Street in Haliburton Village features regular yarn as well as fur yarn,and a full stock of fur knitting kits. All kits are custom made to order. Fur is expensive so the kits are geared to make items that are affordable. People don’t need a machine for the kit. They can make hats, scarves, mits, shawls, shrugs and jackets from the kits.

Open since 2003, My Size carries up-to-date styles for women sizes six to 28. The selection includes funky jeans and perky tops, as well formal dresses and sporty swimsuits. Both owners do the buying, supporting Canadian designers as much as possible. “Minden really needed a store with this concept,” say Kim and Shirley, who measure success not by how many things they sell, but by how many women they help look good and feel good about themselves.

The owners take the time to help customers put an outfit together. They have moccasins to go with that smart hemp tops, and purses to complement an elegant evening dress. In fact, My Size is a one-stop clothing store for everything from scarves, hats and jewellery to robes and pajamas. Active in their community, the owners hold a fashion show twice a year with women from the local hospital as models. All proceeds go to the hospital.
